Insects in Art & Illustration (1 Viewer)

I had to liberate some handmade frames I made 15+ years ago to frame some of my insect drawings for some exhibitions. Now I need to use them for some bird paintings.

But it did give me chance to shoot new photos without the aggravation of glass glare.

These were all done about 16 years ago with insects I'd caught and drawn under a dissecting microscope. All were dead and so very brittle and sometimes missing some limbs. But I drew what was there and then tried to ID them.

At the same time I was doing 6'x8' abstract paintings. I guess these are what got me first interested in abandoning abstraction for naturalism.

First a couple of weevils, probably Acorn and Broad-nosed.

Next what seemed to be a Sap Beetle.

Third a Soft-winged Flower Beetle at top and possible Fruit Fly at bottom.

And last Ambush Bugs with front legs broken off bottom one.
