Birding since 2006!
I had a wonderful day birding today but would like some help identifying these two birds.
I suspect the hawk is a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. I was walking along a wooded trail today and looked to the side and was startled to see this large hawk sitting on a tree stump! It was an overcast day, so I used the flash which explains the night-like quality of the photo. It seemed larger than "jay-sized" which is how the sharp-shinned hawk is described. Also, the yellow legs seem thick to me, and there seems to be a white edge to its tail. Can someone confirm my suspicions?
I suspect the warbler is a Nashville, but I am less sure of this ID. Fortunately the bird was really close to me and was really obliging, so I got some great photos! Any help with this one would be appreciated.
Thanks!
