Hi there. I have just joined your site in the hope of being able to educate myself!! Have discovered a growing interest in spotting birds but I am rubbish at finding out what they are! Any help (other than the RSPB bird identifier) would be gratefully appreciated.

I was on Hilltop in the Sandwell Valley today. Does anyone know the place and what I may have seen? I think some were wrens. There were lots of birds feeding on the trees, a lot of them had black and white heads and a longish tail but weren't wagtails. Also what I think were hawks. Very exciting ;0)

Nice to meet you!
Terri

Hi Terri and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

For Sandwell Valley information, you could make a start by looking at our Opus article for the area, there you will find some likely birds listed, and if you click on their names your will go to the article about them (for instance the Wren and get some ID hints.

There is also a thread for the area in our Local Patch section, it is updated fairly regularly, today being the latest post on it.

If you get stuck, the guys in the ID forum will be only too pleased to help you out.

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy your time here with us.

Thank you!

Thank you everyone. It's nice to meet you.
The long tailed tit looks likely, thank you for that. Thanks for the tips for identifying and local places, I will definitely use them. 😊
