Storing Photos (1 Viewer)

Okay, I was lost when my son asked me for a good photo storage software for his 30,000 some odd photos.

He's a freelance writer for the New York Times among many other writing projects and I, frankly, don't know what to suggest to him. He wants to store them on his computer and backup as well.

He was currently using file manager and named and dated directory folders to store pics on his Apple Computer which I know nothing about and recently shifted over the iPhoto on his Mac, but it creates its own (not very transparent) directory structure which I don't like.. (his description ;) ) Any suggestions?

Thanks

KC,
I don't use it like I should. But I'm thinking that Lightroom should do what he wants.

Another possibility is Photoshop Elements, an inexpensive editing program with a built in organizer. I've used the PE organizer for years and am quite satisfied with it.

KCF, for simple storage of files/images you don't need specialist software, just a well managed file system.

If however you want to manipulate images in any way or use the power of keyword searches for finding the image you want out of the 30,000 you have on file, I would recommend Lightroom.

Lightroom has the flexibilty that allows you to catalogue, create albums and slideshows without moving the orginal locations of the files as well as to make some changes to the images without affecting the master file.

I'm not aware of other packages available but I am a fan of LR.
