Hi Phil and Tom,
strongly backlit, any suggestion this is a marsh harrier?

I'd been struggling to see a Buteo in these pics, but didn't dare go against Tom's experience!

Hardly any experience myself, as large raptors basically don't exist around here, thanks to gamekeepers :-C :storm:

How about a Levant Sparrowhawk?? I always thought if you crossed a buteo with an accipiter you'd get a Levant Sparrowhawk...
 
I was struggling too with these pictures and silhouet suggests Marsch, but barring and light medium coverts as well as second picture is better for Common Buzzard imho
