here] compared his own system (left sub-columns, with headers "Okens System") to that of Cuvier 1817 (
Règne animal; right sub-column, headers "Cuviers System"); for which he latinised the name of many divisions that were given in French only in the original. '
Querquedula' in Oken 1817 is one such name; it has been interpreted as a Latin name for "les Sarcelles" in Cuvier's work [
here].
Under the current rules, no name appearing in the "Cuviers System" sub-columns of Oken's work can be deemed available, because these are part of a classificatory system that is not adopted by the author. Additionally, even if this was not the case,
Querquedula would be nude here, as there is no description, no species-group names are associated to the 'generic' name and, the word 'Sarcelles' was not cited by Oken, making it impossible to establish an objective equivalence between it and
Querquedula.
