Someone please help and tell me what I am looking at. I have gone through all of my bird field guides and I just don't see it and it is driving me crazy.

Reports of Pin-tailed Whydahs are surprisingly frequent in southern California where their numbers are presumably kept up by a near constant stream of escapes. They must be very popular as pets down there. Breeding in the wild is unlikely, since they're obligate nest parasites & none of their traditional hosts is native to North America.

Thank you child! I will remember you in my will. That's it! No wonder it wasn't in my field guide. From Africa of all places! Wait till I tell my husband. He will get a kick out of it.
