Canon 400D AF locking (1 Viewer)

Hi all

I have had a problem with my 400D locking on AF when using my Sigma 180 Macro lens. On occasion when I press the shutter release the camera does not take a frame and there is a red dot visible through the view finder. I can rectify by switching the camera on and off.

Any ideas what is going on? Both the camera and lens are only a few weeks old.
