Booted or Bonelli's Eagle, Portugal. July. (1 Viewer)

Just an earthbound misfit
England
Was stopped at traffic lights on the main road near Beja when i noticed this eagle in the far distance. Just had time to get the camera pointed out of the window and rattle off a couple of shots before the lights changed. (for once in my life they changed too soon!) I doubt if a positive ID can be made from these poor quality shots. The underwing colouration and tail form make me wonder if it might be the rare Bonelli's eagle but would welcome advice or comments.

Its a Booted Eagle. On the 2nd photo you can see the dark flight feathers contrasting with the white underwing coverts and breast. Its also the wrong shape for Bonelli's being too compact and typical for Booted. Knowing Beja intimately, Booted is a common breeder in the Holm Oak montado woodland whereas the nearest breeding Bonelli's are some 20 kms away.
