Whale Watching in Fuerteventura (1 Viewer)

Mark Newsome

Born to seawatch...
I've just had a weeks holiday in Fuerteventura (Canary Is.) and thought the following info about whale watching there may be of use for anyone planning a visit.
A boat trip goes out of Caleta de Fuste harbour daily (if the demand is there) for c3 hrs in the early afternoon. It's priced at 40 Euros per adult and the company is called 'Oceanarium Explorer'. We had excellent views of probably 5 Sperm Whales including 2 ads. with a juvenile, about 3 miles offshore. The boat skipper said March-April was the best time for the whales as they apparently follow the Mackerel shoals there. We didn't find any dolphins from the boat, but the same evening, I saw a pod of 6-7 Atlantic Spotted Dolphins from the shore, not far from where the Sperm Whales where. Obviously the area has potential and other cetacean species must be possible.

Nice one Mark. I've always had a thing about sperm whales ever since I saw Moby Dick starring Gregory Peck at the pictures when I was a kid.

Proper whales, not like those wussy plankton eaters.;)
