I'm embarrassed to be submitting these. All of them look as if I should have no trouble finding them in the bird book. And yet, I'm failing.

Thanks for any help,
Scott

From the eye, 1 looks like Ring-necked Dove with the ring hidden by the posture, and moulting.

2?

3 & 4 I would go for Baglafecht Weaver emini ssp

5?

Well, I don't think it's dark enough for Dusky Turtle Dove; it lacks the red eye-ring (but the eye colour and pattern is spot-on for RND); the tail is very abraded, so it's not that young; and although the photo is over-exposed, you can see the pale forehead, cheek and throat pattern of RND. I think, anyway.

Slender-billed Starling looks good to me.

I think 2 is African Dusky Flycatcher (but I'm pretty hopeless at flycatchers). I's very brown - but some photos show brown colouration, some show very grey; maybe it's the light, and maybe the birds vary quite a lot, too.

I think that African Dusky Flycatcher might be a good call from MacNara - my offer of Parisoma did include a ? Very brown tones though, any more images of same bird?

Hmm, the black loral area and the prominent eye ring makes me think it's something else, but I can't say what unfortunately. Probably a young bird.

Hi Robin,

Unfortunately, I have no other photos of this bird. I even think the reason for it was that the guide was urging me over to the brown parisoma and this was a bird we'd seen earlier on the trip. But, I'm not positive now.

Hi Joakim,

I'm pretty sure it's a bird we saw earlier on the trip, unless it is the parisoma. I would like to get the tagging right for when I post it on my website.

Thanks.

Very frustrating, maybe it's the Dusky F. after all? But I think the eye is to small, the posture doesn't feel right... What I wrote above is not really correct btw. But I don't get the impression of African Dusky, how much I try.

Hope we soon can agree on the Id.

Thank you Nick, I'm sure you are right! I was very stuck for a while here.

Btw, If the dove is a RND (Ring-necked), how can we explain the obvious orangy areas on the tertials?

Joakim

Holy crap!! A moorland chat, of course! Thanks. I saw so many of them on the trip and just didn't recognize him in this particular photo. We saw them a lot more up in the grasslands on the summit in the wolf habitat. Perhaps that's what confused me.

Or, perhaps I should just give up and admit that I have no excuse!

Thanks again everyone!
