Caspian gull ? Farasan Island, Saudi Arabia (1 Viewer)

dear all,

Seen on Friday among the sooty gulls on Farasan Kabir island right in the deepest SW corner of Saudi Arabia.

I assume its an over-summering Caspian gull. Are there any other options?

Thanks in advance for all help.

Rob

Much too dark for Caspian.

Probably a Heuglin's Gull, or Lesser Black-backed Gull if you don't split them. Or maybe dark enough for Baltic Gull, or Lesser..................

it's a 2cy baltic gull spending the summer in the south. brownish hue of the dark renewed scapulars and upperwing is a good indicator for nominate larus fuscus fuscus.
