Dead chickadee babies in nest? Why?

About 1.5 weeks ago, I noticed sweet little cheeping coming from our bird box, the one a Carolina Chickadee pair had nested in. We were so excited! Over the last two week, that peeping has been getting louder- I swear it sounded like there were ten chicks in there! The pair of chickadees have...

Carolina Chickadees are common permanent residents in the southern two thirds of New Jersey. They are abruptly replaced by the very similar Black-capped Chickadee in the northern third. There is very little overlap between the two. They are best distinguished by voice, but in the area of...

I’ve been trying for weeks to get a shot of this adorable bird. But, I finally got a few yesterday! Full disclosure: I’m not 100% certain that it’s a Carolina Chickadee and not a Black Capped Chickadee. But based on how thin the white lines on its wings are, and the fact that (according to the...

    Confrontation

House Finch was trying to poke its head in the nest box containing Chickadees and the parent was not letting it happen. The next day the parent sent the fledglings out so I guess it was trying to get them out on their own to grow up quicker :)
