Can we promote groundhog habitat on a small suburban lot? Will the groundhogs come back?

Hello, folks! Since it's Groundhog Day today (at least here in the US), I was wondering if anyone might have advice about something that regards them. When we first moved here, there was a groundhog hibernating in a burrow a close distance to our house. The first year that we lived here, she...

Is it dangerous for an allergic person to have nut-bearing trees and shrubs in their yard?

The question doesn't really need explaining. Can an allergic person safely have wild nut-bearing trees and shrubs in their yard? (Obviously not for consumption, but for wildlife-attracting value.) Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Rodents to ID, Switzerland

Hi, who can help in these rodents from NW Switzerland? The track is likely lynx, but good luck trying to see a lynx just because you seen its footprints!
  4. Chipmonk

    Chipmonk

Spotted this little one at the Seasons Restaurant when I was vacationing at Flat Rock, North Carolina. In case some of you don't know what this is it's a striped squirrel.
  5. Southern Fox Squirrel

    Southern Fox Squirrel

I live in Summerville, South Carolina and seeing one of these is a treat. They are rare in my parts. Birding at Brookgreen Gardens I couldn't believe how many they had. They are plentiful to say the least.
  6. Eastern cottontail Rabbitt

    Eastern cottontail Rabbitt

I get these good size guys in the summer night and day. So it's spring and this one is a little early. Sometimes they will be right next to a squirrel and actually co-exist with each other eating shelled peanuts.
  7. Chipmunk

    Chipmunk

Captured this little chipmunk years ago in Flat Rock, North Carolina at the Highland Lake Inn and Resort. I have only seen a few of these in my lifetime but not even one here in South Carolina.
  8. Preas

    Preas

These ubiquitous small rodents called "pres" (Cavia aperea) are very near relatives of the guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus).

    Having Something To Say

The Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel is one of our most common small mammals. This one had a personality all of it's own.
  10. Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel

    Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel

This is one of my favorite little mammals to photograph. They are always busy doing something, and like most small mammals their curiosity drives them to want to see what you are doing.
  11. Black Tailed Prairie Dog

    Black Tailed Prairie Dog

This prairie dog was a very cooperative subject. I made this image lying on my stomach with a 75-300mm zoom. Excuse the file name this is a Black Tail not White.
