  1. Cuddling up

    Cuddling up

It had snowed and the ground had quite a bit of snow. Just thought it looked liked these two had got together to keep warm. TTTW Latest: we had a couple of snow showers last night, the first just turned to rain and didn't settle, the second was a little more serious and did lie overnight, but...

  3. ... og sure er de

    ... og sure er de

... and sour they are." But for the Starlings they were quite tasty. My husband also harvests rowans most years, using a long pruning hook to get at them. He cooks them up with apples from our garden to make jelly. The trick is to harvest them after a frost, or else put them in the freezer...
  4. Starlings in the sun

    Starlings in the sun

I could have said "Hyt henger de og sure er de" of the flock of starlings. Or maybe not sour. More like high they hang and backlit they are. But then I turned around and saw a few more on another tree, not even all that high up, and in good light |=)|
  5. Hyt henger de ...

    Hyt henger de ...

The Norwegian version of the fable of the Fox and the Grapes is about rowan berries. The fox is tempted, but can't reach them. Finally he turns away and declares "High they hang ..." But for this starling (one of a flock) they were easily accessible.

Again, not all of them could be got into the frame. I gave the picture that title, as these guys are right vandals, especially if they get to my window feeders.... the times they've sent them crashing to the ground the ratbags!!! Thought there was some nice light on them that day, along with...

    Rural birding

Starlings are everywhere! These two were out at the ocean side of Bodega Head, probably foraging picnic leftovers around the parking lot area (a sort of urban bird adaptation to rural life). The iceplant (also an introduced and invasive species) makes a nice backdrop for them, echoing the colors...
  24. Birds Of A Feather

    Birds Of A Feather

A large group of black birds descended on our yard yesterday. At first glance they looked like all the same black bird, but turns out they're not quite that. We had grackles, starlings and red winged blackbirds traveling and foraging in a group together.
