    ssp. T. h. striatidorsus
  2. Golden Tanager

    Golden Tanager

This photo was taken at a feeder at San Jorge Tandayapa Hummingbird Reserve and Lodge in the cloud forest near Quito, Ecuador.

  4. Russet-backed Oropendola

    Russet-backed Oropendola

One more photo of this species which was reliable on the feeders at Tandayapa.
  5. White-throated Quail-dove

    White-throated Quail-dove

This bird came to the feeder at Tandayapa Birding Lodge, but unfortunately light is a problem there.
  6. Telling-off

    Telling-off

And this is the last photo from these hummingbird flash photography sessions that I'm going to upload - one of my favourites. I can certainly recommend the activity - lots of fun, and it's bound to result in some stunning pictures.
  7. Go away!

    Go away!

The right hand bird is clinging to a humming-bird feeder - I think the message is pretty clear!
  8. Fawn-breasted Brilliant

    Fawn-breasted Brilliant

    This time approaching more conservatively.
  9. Fawn-breasted Brilliant

    Fawn-breasted Brilliant

Here's another bird deciding that our carefully chosen nectar spender was a fine perch...

  17. White-booted Racket-tail

    White-booted Racket-tail

I love the sense of intent that comes from this bird - first a perch, and then the food!
  18. White-booted Racket-tail

    White-booted Racket-tail

More Racket-tails - this one showing that the streamers can have a mind of their own.

    Fawn-breasted Brilliant

Another species that gave us some lovely opportunities. Bold and large for hummingbirds I have a few more quite spectacular (if I say so myself) flightshots of these Brilliants to go.
  22. White-booted Racket-tail

    White-booted Racket-tail

Note the colours in the rackets and on the upper tail.
  23. White-booted Racket-tail

    White-booted Racket-tail

I can't help but wonder what the streamers do aerodynamically in this kind of situation.
  24. White-booted Racket-tail

    White-booted Racket-tail

I have a few more of these Racket-tails - the rackets alone guarantee that there's something interesting to see. This is a sneaky bird realizing that when we refilled the flower with sugar water some of it got spilled.
