The only woodcocks I have seen in the past are the ones I have flushed when walking past them. I take no credit for finding this elusive bird, it was found by other birders on the reserve. Not a very clear shot but this is the first Woodcock I have captured on camera. Very pleased with it though.
I have seen Woodcock a few times mostly flying so this was a bonus to have one visible. Unfortunately not too clear though but at last am able to add a Woodcock photo to my collection.
Found this Woodcock just off the boardwalk at Magee Marsh. These birds are so hard to see as they blend so well in with the leaves, etc on the marsh floor.

A much sought-after gamebird indeed, yet so difficult in my experience to get a glimpse of during day time, given its crepuscular habits.
Not today though, when this individual slowly approached my position while feeding... it must have been a good moon...
I was totally frozen after only 3 hours in a bag hide yesterday morning, and about to pack up when this surprise turned up! Saw one over 25 years ago, but it was silhouetted; 2 weeks ago I got a very quick glimpse of one as it flew past, also silhouetted. This is my best view to date and once...
well I am quite sure it is a Woodcock,it was quite hard to see,and even though it was very, very close,(full frame) it was quite hard to get a shot with so much branch/twigs in the way, also I am not to good on the resize of a photo,so I hope it still looks ok,even if it is half hidden,it's a...
This is an American Woodcock, seen in the Gaddy Bird Garden in Tower Grove Park. I think of TGP as mainly a warbler/ect. location, but checked it out today, and was rewarded with this woodcock, Red-Headed woodpeckers, Fox Sparrows, some other usual suspects, and a coyote.
I've been feeling left out of late with only one fieldfare and redwing in the garden - all out of reach of the camera. This all but makes up for it though - a very special garden tick.
Found this Woodcock on our tour the last night on the island. He was climbing up some vines working his way up to the tree. I like this shot as it shows the underwing colors and the leg bands. These birds are also found on Okinawa but I've never seen them here.
*Attention Opus* Another new bird for the Opus database. This was taken at night and I had to enhance it. The overall browner coloration and the pinkish bare skin behind the eye as well as the choice of habitat and time of year this was found are enough to distinguish this bird apart from the...
A very difficult species to find and photograph! Because of the low temperatures they come out of the forrests to eat at non-frozen places.
