With great liberality M. Savés presented it to us.
M. Savés's occupation having taken him through most parts of the island, he has had unrivalled oppertunities of cpllecting, but, has not retained many of his specimens, and many have suffered from the destructive agents of a tropical climate.

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds
New Caledonian Owlet-nightjar Aegotheles savesi E. L. Layard & E. l. C. Layard, 1881
Théodore Savès (1855-1918) was a French naturalist who travelled in New Caledonia. He collected botanical specimens on that island (1870s and 1880s).

Théodore Savés (1855-1918) French collector in New Caledonia 1873-1885 (Aegotheles).

Here The Scientists' International Directory his name is Théophile Savés. Same v.4=[no.13-16] (1879-1880) - Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales - Biodiversity Heritage Library . Here Collections d'objets calédoniens du Muséum de Toulouse - Persée is written:
Un sieur Théophile Savès, possédait à Toulouse, côte Pavée, n° 9, dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle un commerce de curiosités.

Or Ethnographie - Muséum de Toulouse

If him https://basededonnees.archives.toulouse.fr/4DCGI/Web_RegistreChangePage/ILUMP28276 p. 21 his full name is Jean Théophile Nicolas Savés.
In the marriage record https://basededonnees.archives.toulouse.fr/4DCGI/Web_RegistreChangePage/ILUMP25428 p. 242 he is mentioned as négociant and the adress côte Pavée, n° 9 would fit. He married 25. Jan. 1887 Antoinette Julienne Delon
Death Record https://basededonnees.archives.toulouse.fr/4DCGI/Web_RegistreChangePage/ILUMP32447 p. 149

Jean Théophile Nicolas Savés b. 25. Jan. 1855 Toulon d. 4. Nov 1918 Toulon

P.S. The links may not work and the search may have to start Plan de classement - DIRECTION DES ARCHIVES MUNICIPALES DE TOULOUSE

Feel free to correct my logic.

This seems to be "the" reference about him :

Astre G. 1962. Théophile et Alexis Savès, négociants toulousains en Nouvelle-Calédonie et collecteurs d’objets d’histoire naturelle et d’ethnographie à la fin du XIXe siècle. Journal de la Société des Océanistes, 18: 108-112.

I only find this online, unfortunately, in snippet view in Google Books. (Persée has scans of quite a few issues of this journal, but not this one.)
