Wells-next-the Sea

A miserable morning so we headed off to North Norfolk as the weather looked more promising, and although it was dry it was really windy and flipping freezing. On arrival there did'nt seem much about although the tide was still going out. From the beach we had a good sighting of a Common Scoter off shore and a great view of a Rough-Legged Buzzard .We walked back through the Pines towards the car park and then along the Estuary towards the town.We had only walked a few yards when we saw 7 Goosanders in the new marina.Further on there were hundreds of Brent Geese on the Football field and when they all took flight it was an amazing sight. We had a great day.:flyaway:

Sculthorpe Moor

After freezing our wotsits off in Wells we headed to Sculthorpe. As we were leaving Wells the sky was full with skeins of Pink-Footed Geese heading to Holkham.A couple of miles out of Wells we saw a field full of Pink-Footed and Alan was out of the car with his camera like a shot.:-O There were hundreds of Geese in the field and more arriving all the time. When we reached Sculthorpe the temperature had dropped like a stone and the late sun offered little warmth. We had some nice sightings but we did'nt stay too long it was just too cold.

Rockland Broad.

Stayed local this morning and went to Rockland Broad as there had been reports of a Red-Necked Grebe on the Broad during the week. But unfortunately the Broad was virtually devoid of any Bird Life and it was very cold so we did'nt stay too long, instead we headed home for coffee and a slice of cake.

Norwich Cathedral

As there had been several reports in the paper and on tv about the pair of Peregrines who have taken up residence at the Cathedral we decided to take a look.As we parked the car we could see one on the platform but by the time we reached the cathedral it was gone.We stood and waited for about 10 mins to no avail so we then started to head back,we turned to look back for one last scan and were delighted with the sight of the peregrine leaving the platform with food in it's talons, circling the spire and then landing on the side of the spire and feeding. It was a cracking sighting only made better by the appearance of the other bird sitting higher up the spire.;)

RSPB Snettisham

Up and out quite early this morning so we could see the high tide at Snettisham.Although it was'nt as spectacular as if we had gone in the winter it was still amazing with thousands of Knot,Dunlin and Golden Plover taking flight as the tide came in.We also were treated to the sight of the Oystercatchers doing their silly Monty Python walk and making a lot of noise.A great morning birding and only made better by the cream tea at Norfolk Lavender.:-O

Abbott's Farm,Upper Stoke.

Stayed on our local patch this morning, walked up to Abbott's Farm and then followed the bridlepath through the farm and following it till it joined up with Naiden's Lane and then back along Brickle Rd.We saw our first Yellowhammer of the year,it was showing really well and it's yellow head was so bright in the sun.
After our six mile round walk it was back home for a well earned lunch.:eat:

RSPB Strumpshaw Fen

It alway's amazes me that the car park can be full and yet you can see hardly anyone walking about, where do they all go? Lots of Cetti's and Sedge Warblers in full song and again lots of Blackcaps about. There were up to eight Marsh Harriers flying over the reserve and across the river over Ted Ellis Reserve, the Bittern was booming very loudly but we did'nt see it.Plenty of Butterflies flitting about in the sunshine also hundreds of St Marks Flies as well which was a pain.

120. Willow Tit
121. Willow Warbler
122. Cetti's Warbler
123. Swallow (seen on our way home)
