Of interest perhaps -

There has been an Influx of Goosander into the area with perhaps as many as 21 birds (nothing flew off whilst I was watching, well only 50 metres or so) . 13 at Walkers Stadium Weir (10 male), 5 (4 male) on the Biam adjacent to the Boardwalk on the Meadows, 2 female behind Aldi with Mallard on Grand Union and another with Mallard Kings Lock area Aylestone. I suspect that many of these birds will also be frequenting the large pool opposite Enderby Police Station.

4 Water Rail showing well on Ice next to the Walkers Stadium also, always nice to see.

Good for photography perhaps, with many approachable with care, should the 'city' folk fancy some sharp colour against the snow and ice.

Thanks Mark,

Certainly yesterday the balancing pool at Enderby was almost fully frozen over, and the smaller pool at Jubilee Park was also.

Had a few Goosander down this end last winter so hopefully some will drift down soon.

Saw them earlier mate, seems to be more! They are also flying up using the Biam close to the outer ring so they can't be far away.

Still no bloody Waxwings around Great Central/Narboro' Rd!

Two Jack Snipe on the Meadows, one feeding along edge of shingle bank on the Biam close to the northern end of boardwalk, showing well and another close (just south) to Packhorse Bridge, again feeding along edge of Biam.

Still good numbers of Goosander though widely spread.

Still around 20 Goosander on the Grand Union from the Walkers stadium to Middleton street showing down to 20 feet and can be watched hunting under the ice at various spots close to the gas works, amazing!

Jack Snipe still in the same boardwalk area.

Goosander still present and now used to people walking along the towpath and very approachable.

Around 40+ Waxwings knocking around the Landsdowne Rd/Knighton Lane/Grace Rd block, the Cricketers Pub has plenty of berries as do nearby gardens so hopefully they'll hang around a few days.

Edit, these must be part of the 200 or so that have been gathering up at the Pork Pie roundabout.

Short-eared Owl on the southern section of Aylestone Meadows this morning, over fields between Asda and the Kings Lock Cottage.

Little Egret on 'No Name' Brook between Middleton Street and the River Biam, Aylestone Meadows.
