ID for the bee would be much appreciated, and if there's enough detail in the insect above it, that would also be appreciated.

Looks like Eristalis tenax (Common Drone Fly). But maybe someone else can confirm it.

Certainly an Eristalis hoverfly (not a bee). Maybe E. pertinax, but can't see the critical features to be totally sure.
 
+1 for Eristalis tenax (right hind tibia showing well).

The bug has a look of Plagiognathus arbustorum but they are not adult until about the beginning of June so it can't be that.

Thank you for the Eristalis tenax ID Paul and aeshna5, along with David who also suggested it. Looks like you are also correct Paul with Plagiognathus arbustorum, the photo was taken last year in July. Thanks to everyone who responded to this.
