Butterflies of the Canary Islands, 2022-2023 (1 Viewer)

Any update on photos Josh?
Here is the final day :)

7 January. Cueva De Las Niñas

Final day, a fairly quiet affair, returning to the excellent Cueva De Las Niñas Reservoir. Very good numbers of butterflies to round the trip off, including my best day total of Canary Blues for the trip and my first Canary Red Admirals on Gran Canaria.

And with that, I headed for the airport mid-afternoon, a successful trip over.

Cueva De Las Niñas

Small White 300+
Bath White 40+
Clouded Yellow 60+
Small Copper 25
Canary Blue 8
African Grass Blue 2
Southern Brown Argus 6

Canary Red Admiral 2
Painted Lady 50+

Hopefully of value to anyone travelling to the Canary Islands, a full list of species seen with locations:

SYSTEMATIC LIST

A total of 23 species were noted on the trip, 19 species on Tenerife and 20 on Gran Canaria. In general, butterfly numbers were far higher than I had expected, especially on Gran Canaria, where often many hundreds of butterflies were seen daily. This almost certainly was due to rains in the weeks before my trip, bringing fairly abundant greenery and flowers. On a trip to the same islands a year earlier, butterfly numbers were far lower.
