Caterpillar ID (Northants, UK) (1 Viewer)

Good morning folks,

First post for over a year so apologies if it's the wrong forum!

Can anyone help with ID'ing this caterpillar which we came across on a walk in North Northants yesterday, please?

Many thanks in advance!

One of the Hawk Moths, and I think it's a Poplar Hawk Moth.
Thanks for your reply.

Like you I suspect it's a Hawk caterpillar but I'm not so sure it's the Poplar? The white dots don't tally and neither does the line running from head to tail. The pinkish colourations don't really tie in with that of the Poplar either?

Puss moth larva. They start to turn pink/purple when they are about to pupate and then go for a long walk, which is when people tend to see them.
