Yesterday - 2 Black Terns, Yellow-legged Gull and 9 Curlew Sandpipers at Hoylake; Black Tern at Winsford Bottom Flash; 2 Black Terns at New Brighton; Black Tern, Willow Warbler, 2 Wheatears and 2 Little Egrets at Hilbre; 2 Ruddy Shelducks, Little Stint, Hobby and 2 Curlew Sandpipers at Frodsham; 3 Little Stints at Burton Mere Wetlands plus Marsh Harrier and Lesser Whitethroat at Inner Marsh Farm; 3 Curlew Sandpipers at Pickerings Pasture; 2 Greenshanks at Woolston Eyes; Hen Harrier, 2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Short-eared Owls, 3 Whinchats, 5 Wheatears, Merlin and Marsh Harrier at Burton; Sedge Warbler at Neumann's Flash;

Today - possible Long-tailed Skua, Pomarine Skua and 3 Arctic Skuas reported past Red Rocks also 2-3 Manx Searwaters and 3 Red-throated Divers; Eider at Woolston Eyes; 3 Little Stints at Burton Mere Wetlands; 2 Curlew Sandpipers at Hoylake (also Red-throated Diver and 4 Arctic Skuas) plus one at Thurstaston; 2 Marsh Harriers at Denhall Quay.

Agreed John that does look small, been watching the ruff on Neumanns recently they are twice the size, even the Reeves.


It certainly caused a bit of head scratching this afternoon - and not a little excitement. The amazing thing is, I don't think one birder who saw it seriously thought it was a Ruff. It just goes to show !

after seeing a nice female marsh harrier at parkgate scattering the waders far and wide. we rather bizarrely had 2 singing chifchaf and a whitethroat at IMF yesterday. it was almost springlike
 
After having my very first garden Skua ( probably an Arctic ) over the house, in West Kirby, earlier this afternoon I've just had a Swift go through. :t:
