Interesting Hen harrier count. I was on the Dee today and only counted two mobile ringtails which moved up and down the length of the marshes constantly. Unless someone has seen 5 at one time, I think we have to take any Bird-guides reported counts with a pinch of Dee estuary tideline rubbish! :-O

CB, Do you know what time the Chiffchaffs were seen, I looked until late morning without seeing them.

Cheers Dave

PS
Well done to the Scottish birders who made the long trip today for the BB Pipit, they were rewarded with stunning views so made the trip well worth while for them :t:

Richard on the Dee website reported the birds as roosting, so presumably they were seen around the same.

I have today been made aware via Facebook of an astonishing incident of vandalism at Moore NR, where "someone" has cut several branches, in an effort to remove them from view, when looking at a potential Lesser Spotted Woodpecker nest hole.

Further to this incident the Moore NR facebook page carried the following statement :-

"Moore Nature Reserve

If you are visiting the reserve to view or photograph the lesser spotted woodpecker please DO NOT cross fences or hedges, or cut vegetation to get a better view. This species has very specific habitat requirements and if disturbed is unlikely to return to the reserve. We appreciate that most of our visitors respect the reserve and its widlife, however if you suspect disturbance please call the wardens on 01925 444689 and leave a message."

Hopefully such a disgraceful incident will not be repeated!!
