Driving from Chester down towards sealand rd today, just before turning left to go to the tip, I heard a loud distinctive peep and an oystercatcher flew low overhead and landed on the roof of chestercarsupermarket. Being an old petrol stn the roof is one of those big flat canopies you get over the fuel pumps. The river dee is less than 100yds away at this point, so could they be nesting up there?

Defo. I've had pairs nesting near me on top of a corrugated factory roof. I guess it looks like a beach to the Oystercatchers. That roof is some way from any river/estuary.
