Do we know if this Corncrake is the real deal that would have good credentials for acceptance, as opposed to one as part of a recent reintroduction scheme for example the Ouse washes birds?

As far as I'm aware there is a single male that's following a pair of Grey Partridge around and occasionally getting chased for its troubles. I was there last night with about 10 people viewing from the road over a hedge and the bird was completely unconcerned by our presence. The paddock has pony's in it and the owners go in the paddock daily. In answer to Phil's question it will never be known unless someone sees a ring on it (assuming the reintroduction birds are ringed). There was a very showy bird on Shetland mainland recently, well away from the species main breeding range, so perhaps this bird is part of a larger influx this year.

There are thought to be two birds, present since about 20th - two seen by birders but not the finder on 26th and the earlier date by a non-birder the quote being "well over a week" on the 26th.

Thanks Jane.
It appears that we've had a small influx in the N W as one on Anglesey from around 20th May at undisclosed site.

Not aware, having spoke to several locals, of two birds being seen. Although apparently two were heard calling at the same time. Bird had been present a while before being seen/heard by three different birders independently.
