Hi All Bird Ringers

Well ,the weather in UK has looked pretty grotty to say the least, but down here it has been fantastic,so much so that a lot of wintering birds have moved out or a passing through quickly N.to their breeding areas, but that has not spoilt things in the least

On 29th.jan finally got back to El Rinconcillo again,3 same nets up as before, could not get the 1 I really wanted up as the water in the depression was too deep ,needed thigh waders, will try again this week for that ride.

There were no penduline Tits to be seen, but plenty of wintering Reed Buntings about, but unfortunately did not find their way into the nets.

Only trapped 15 birds so much quieter than last visit, with a few retraps from the other ringing group that also work this site.

Cut out 4 ringing lanes in an area which I bird a lot which is very close to home, called Llanos de Tabanos,a wonderful huge area of gorse and espina with a few scattered pine copses.

Great site for wintering S.Grey Shrike, and breeding site for Spectacled Warbler and Dartford Warbler, amongst others.,also as it is close to coast and quite high it is a prime area to watch raptor and other passerine migration.

Well got the nets up before first light and only needed 2 net rounds and had to close the nets with 2 many birds at once!!

As it was the first time here all the birds were new,a pair of Stonechat ssp.rubicola,16 Sardinian warblers,1 local Blackcap and 25 migrant Blackcaps.

Most of these latter migrants were carrying loads of body fat and were obviously on the move N.

This week will be back in the orchard in the Genal valley plus another trip prob.to El Rinconcillo

Cheers for now

Ricardo
