Good day,

This is an image (below) taken by an attorney friend of mind this morning, 26 August 2021, outside their office in Salisbury, North Carolina, US, North America.

Definitely an urban setting with this photo having been 30 feet +/- from the main street. Surrounding buildings, within 2-3 blocks 1 - 7 stories with 30-50% tree coverage for the area.

I'm not real adept at ID, but what I've come to , so far, in my mind is perhaps a Cooper's Hawk? Possibly an immature bird?

Am I heading in the right direction?

Thanks

Barney

An immature for sure. Warmer brown head when compared to the rest of the body, as well as apparent leg thickness (plus date and location), favor Cooper's in my opinion. Not sure enough to really claim it, though, as not all the features seem to align to me.
