Cornwall Birding (7 Viewers)

avocet now number 6 at st clements. not quite as many avocet as there are cattle egret down west. Towards tresillian the mistle thrush were going nuts in the small conifer wood.. Lovely and peaceful this afternoon only a couple of families out walking.
 
1 velvet scoter, 2 black throated divers and several great northern divers at porthpean this morning, 2 black throated and 2 great nothern divers along with 18 red breasted mergansers on loe beach at lunchtime today..
 
Hi all, Anyone know whether the Hume's has been seen since this morning coz this si my bogie bird and we might try tomorrow.

Ps Missed Fairlop bird 4 times and the Norfolk bird once.
 
just out of intrest if a humes warbler was to up sticks and go would it do it by day or by night. the weather at the moment here is atrocious so if they move by night hopefully its still there tomorow..
 
New Years Day

Ten cattle egret at Drift/Sancreed and Six at Halsetown allso Hume,s leaf Warbler at Cot Vally.Green winged Teal,Med gull and one Avocet at Hayle,two Black necked Greeb and Black throated Diver plus Great Northen Diver at Newyn,Purple Sandpiper at Penzance.

Torpoint

Two Brents came close in to the shore in the fresh winds not a lot about 2 Med gulls 30 + Dunlin 50+ oystercatchers.

had to work today so could only manage a quick look on stithians at 4.15 tonight. no sign of the bittern, no news on it anywhere that i know of. off there first light tomorow for a couple of hours to see if its still there.. not looking good at the mo though
 
Caradon Sightings

One Slavonian Grebe,one Red-Breasted Merganser,Two Black Brents.

Millbrook Three Mew Gulls,Six Greenshank,one Egyptian goose.

Wacker One Spoonbill.

Does the Cattle egret in the pictures shown here have a bit of Summer plumage coming back onto it's head? Just wondering.
 
The Hume's seems to have left the cot which is a bit of a suprise really.
Those Cattle Egrets do seem to be showing a little bit off buff coming through on the crown which suggests summer plumage. From my knowledge, birds which attain summer plumage early often stay local to breed...! Here's hoping.

Cattle Egret

Some of the Cattle Egret did have this nice hint of summer plumage on them lets hope that they may say around the county a bit longer.

Bittern sighting.

bittern showing well again this afternoon and also sparrowhawk across the front of the southern cut off hide.
