Lytchett Bay

The pools are looking perfect at high tide for a few goodies, however the waders aren't thinking the same with visits over the last 2 days producing no waders using them. The Reed Warblers are getting ever more active and with it very showy high in the reedbeds. Also a nice Holly Blue on the way back up the lane.

Morden Bog

Had a very pleasant stroll around the bog this morning.
There seem to be plenty of crossbills on the move. Single hobby hawking over Old Decoy Pond, plenty of buzzards, woodlark, stonechats, kestrel.
Plenty of butterflies too, small heath, small blue, holly blue, gatekeeper, meadow brown, marbled white, large white, brimstone, small skipper.

Lovely spot.

The bog is 20 seconds from my house, I go there quite a lot but I really am brand new to birding. Saw a big brown bird high up which looked to have a blue back or tail. Was it a Jay?

Lytchett Bay

3rd time lucky at Lytchett with 2 Green Sandpiper on the Pools this morning, also 2 Sedge Warbler.

Hi Greenfrog - difficult to say for certain but an obvious flash of blue would point towards jay - and there are plenty about..

Wood sandpiper at Longham Lakes tonight.

Quite exciting find for me. Took me a while to id it but it came out into sunlight quite close and let me photo it. Pale underwings, white rump, but didn't hear it call.

Two common sand with it at times too.

Morden Encounter

An interesting encounter between a Stonechat and a WW this morning. The Stonechat had 2 Caterpillars which the WW took a fancy to, it harried and hassled the Stonechat for at least 3 mins until eventually the Stonechat decided it was best to swallow the caterpillars.
