Father & Son Robins together about a year (1 Viewer)

Hi all,
We’ve got a pair of male robins who showed up last summer when the big, richly colored father was teaching its speckle-bellied son the ropes. They stayed together well into the fall, and now they’re back (March 2024). Still together. See photo. I understood that robin fathers took care of their offspring only for a few weeks and that male robins are pretty territorial. Anyone else have long-parenting robin dads? IMG_0064.jpeg

H Jen and welcome aboard from those of us on BF :)

I have not noticed long parenting Robins. They must feel safe in your vicinity .

I'm not sure if it's about parental care at this stage (also, I don't know), but I've read that some birds are able to accomplish surprising feats in that area:

(EDIT: Let me know if you want the full text.)

Hi Jen and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Sorry, I can't be of any help with this, I don't know your Robins, of course. You may be interested to read our Opus article on this species: American Robin - BirdForum Opus

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
