Nous avons nommé cette forme en l'honneur de M. le Colonel Courtot, chef de mission Tunis-Tschad.

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims
Crested Lark ssp. Galerida cristata courtoti Lavauden, 1926 NCR [JS Galerida cristata alexanderi]
Lieutenant-Colonel Victor-Paul Courtot (fl.1925) was a French army officer and explorer in the Sahara. He led the Mission Tunis-Tchad (1925) , which proceeded from the Gulf of Sirte to the Gulf of Benin.

The Key to Scientific Names
Lt.-Col. Victor-Paul Courtot (fl. 1925) French Army, explorer in the Sahara, leader of the Mission Tunis-Tchad (syn. Galerida cristata alexanderi).

He seems to be co author of Du golfe des Syrtes au golfe du Bénin par le lac Tchad. Journal de marche de la mission Tunis-Tchad dirigée par le lt-col. Courtot. Maybe born 11/02/1869 in Paris and died 17/11/1959 in Montauban?
