Help with North American moths - Please (1 Viewer)

Birdbrainjwc

A young "die hard" Montana birder
I am an experienced birder, and just the other night, something hit me, and I was really intrigued by the moths at my porch lights. I can bird by day, and moth be night.

I am in the northwestern part of Montana, US.

Please can someone help me out? (also I would like pointers on a good moth book for NA or the western NA)

Here are a few moths

without hitting the web, here are some pointers:

moth 1 = Agapeta sp., Tortricidae
moth 2 = Pyrausta sp. (or close); Crambidae, Pyraustinae
moth 3 - Noctuidae, Hadeninae; possibly an Apamea sp., or related.
moth 4 - Arctiidae
moth 5 - Noctuidae, Acontiinae

There are few good single book resources for western US.
On the Internet, try the following for starters:

http://www.daltonstate.edu/galeps/
there are links to other North American moth websites of interest from here.

cheers,

Roger.
