I need to share an upsetting incident. I love birds and am the carer of 2 hand-reared budgies, Lily and Scout. I was recently in a rush for a work meeting and came across a small fledgling bird (probably a Grey Tit). It looked in distress, so without thinking I picked it up and put it in my car until I got home at 2300. Up to this point the bird seemed fine. It couldn't fly but was able to preen. I googled for information which told me to take it back, so I made plans to do so for the next day. I was concern about the bird being hungry and needing water so using a dropper I gave it a little water, but then stupidly gave it some crushed parakeet pellets dissolved in milk. I kept the baby in a warm box covered with tissue ready to take it back the next day. After a couple of hours I came down to check, only to find the poor baby had died. I feel so bad. How could I have been so stupid!! I had only been trying to help but had inadvertently killed the poor little baby. I genuinely didn't know that the parents continued to look after their babies after they leave the nest. I buried the baby under a rose bush but still feel distraught. Thanks for listening :'(
