How is your 2011 List Going? (8 Viewers)

I should have gotten this bird the first day of the year as this species is usually quite common in these parts. But did not get it until today, January 7th.

70. Mourning Dove, Lake Contrary area, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Forgot one from Jan 1st:
51. House Sparrow

Walking the dog around the block, spotted a Red-tailed chasing a young:
52. Red-shouldered Hawk

Went searching for a Lapland Bunting that a lot of people have seen, but no. This was my third visit to the place, spending hours there and only seeing Yellowhammers. Argh. Well, got a year tick anyway.

January 8

54. Black Woodpecker

January 8th

71. White-crowned Sparrow, Saint Joseph's Stockyards, Saint Joseph, Missouri
72. Great Blue Heron (finally, but it is pretty much all ice and no water here currently), flyover at Mud Lake, Saint Joseph, Missouri
73. Merlin, Lake Contrary, Saint Joseph, Missouri

January 10, 2011

Currently having a snow storm here in Missouri, but I was able to drive over a birder friend's home and see one more year bird at his feeders. Looks like we have had an accumulation of about six inches of the white stuff so far!

74. Red-breasted Nuthatch, Saint Joseph, Missouri

A very slow start to the year. I spent the last two weeks dog-sitting for my brother in West Virginia (just got back this afternoon). Not being familiar with the area, I didn't know of any good birding locations, and the weather was lousy for a good part of the trip as well.

You're really zooming along, CB!
I'm a bit busy at work this week but I have hopes for the weekend. We're heading down to Galveston and will spend Saturday night there. So I should be able to do at least a couple of hours birding on both Saturday and Sunday.

Two more today. Really need as many birds as possible while i'm off this week. I've got a hard target to reach 200 species in my home county this year.
