How many ....... Crows ........ have you seen? (2 Viewers)

aka The Person Named Above
There seems to be a major split among people about corvids. Some ( the more intelligent ones such as myself ;)) think they are superb while others tend to consider them 'dross' at best. Pretty sure that our Magpie and Black-billed are split so add another one Chris. Good corvid list.....I like 'em too!

I've included " Our" Maggie as Black-billed and the 'colonials' ( ;) ) bird as Hudsonian. " Black-billed" is probably due for another hit with the splitting stick any time soon :t:

Carrion Crow
Hooded Crow
Rook
Jackdaw
Jay
Magpie
Raven
Alpine Chough.

Alpine Chough but not Chough? (Other than the addition of the latter, my crow list is exactly the same ;) Never birded outside Europe yet and never been in the range of Azure-winged Magpie, Sibe jay and Nutcracker...all very much on my wanted list though, especially the Azure-winged which I can't see ever getting to Britain)

Chris,
Good, comprehensive list. Nice bet-hedging with macrorhyncus.

HBW 14 elevates Pica asirensis (500 birds?) but Mike Jennings has doubts, having watched and listened to more than possibly any other informed person.

One taxon worth betting on could be laurencei as 'Punjab Raven' whose range reaches Turkey...

Alpine Chough but not Chough?

I don't think that is particularly unusual at a European level - Alpine Choughs outnumber Red-billed Choughs by 5:1 in Europe. I certainly saw Alpine Chough several years before I finally ventured to those remote parts where the red-billed ones are found (i.e. Wales!).

Anyway, my corvid list stands at 24, apparently:

Eurasian Jay
Siberian Jay
Gray Jay
Scrub Jay
Pinyon Jay
Blue Jay
Steller's Jay
Collared Jay
Green Jay
Magpie
Eurasian Nutcracker
Clark's Nutcracker
Alpine Chough

Cape Crow
Pied Crow
American Crow
Fish Crow
African White-necked Raven
