How to support local moth populations? (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I'm worried about the decline of moths due to climate change, I like moths and I want to help support them. I've heard that the best way to do this is to make more habitat for them, i.e. more plants that they need to eat. I have a house with a bit of land, I'd like to cultivate moth-friendly plants. How can I find out what kind of moths live in my area and what kind of habitat they need? I live in a town called Chateau-Chinon in central France, in a partially forested hilly region. Thank you.

Hopefully, someone will be along shortly with a response but I'm just going to jump in here and wish you a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum (y)

Hi pteehan and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Turn off all the lights. Presence of lights deters Caterpillar feeding and attracts certain common bat species (especially those which use sight a lot: surprisingly there are some!).

Plant lots of native plant species and make sure there is no pesticide (inc herbicide) in the area. Having damp or fully wet areas will help.
