I'm useless at small Hummingbirds, especially early morning with no sunshine. This one was on the wires near my motel by LAX airport on 11/4/13.

At this time of year it's surely an Allen's. Rufouses should pretty much be migrated to far northern California and points north, if I recall correctly.

Thanks guys, I thought it must be one of these two. Looking at the migration data it would seem that Rufous should be gone in mid-April and as it was "singing" I got the impression that it might be territorial. I presume Allen's nest in suburban LA?

Rufous isn't considered a late migrant until May in this area from my knowledge.

But its most regular late March-April
