Hi

This is not a moth but an antlion. Where was the photograph taken?

It was taken by a guy in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

Then this is rather bizarre, as according to the internet there is only one species of antlion in the UK (Euroleon nostras, found in Suffolk only) - and this isn't one!

I think it is more than bizarre. It looks like a perfect match for Heoclisis fundata - an Australian endemic!

Just back on-line. I'd not even looked at the identity of the specimen in question. Perhaps this chap in Nuneaton has been on holiday?
A strange one. Any more detail on the photographer?

OK. He's just told me the picture was taken in the south of France!

Can't think of an European species that looks like this. I still think it is an introduced H. fundata.
