Lesser Scaups? Northern Virginia, USA (1 Viewer)

I took this photo today at a freshwater lake in northern Virginia. These two ducks were smaller than the mallards that were also on the lake. Are they lesser scaups?

Never mind. I just found this photo, also taken today. Based on the bill, I think these are ring-necked ducks, not scaups.

The bird in the second photo is a Ring-necked Duck, but the birds in the first photo are Lesser Scaups. Note that their backs are grey, not black.

...and while not the best angle, the narrower heads favour Lesser over Greater Scaups.
