Does anyone know where I may be able to spot American woodcocks in the central Florida area?

Yes, around Orlando - Volusia and Seminole counties ..

Trying to make it as a day trip - so about 60 mile radius from Orlando.

Any ideas?

There have been sightings at Kissimmee Prairie preserve.

I am not real familiar with the area. But you could try Hatbill Park (Brevard, FL) or Orlando Wetlands Park. They have been known to have them in the past.

Will give Orlando Wetlands a try in a couple of weeks. it's one of my favorite birding spots in the area and will open around February 1.

Kissimmee Prairie is on my list of places to bird - I think it's the recommended place for grasshopper sparrow, which I also need ....

Yes, the prairie for grasshopper sparrows. Just bring a good luck charm with you
