I have had this bird in my garden today but cannot tell what it is and wondered if anyone knew? It's about the size of a starling but is grey/brown in colour with black eyes and beak and dark legs... if anyone can help identify I would be very happy 😊

I want to say immature Starling but I'm not sure.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum (y)
We're glad you found us and thanks for taking a moment to say hello. Please join in wherever you like ;)

Thank you! I'm new here but love watching all the birds and am getting more and more visitors! Had a family of 3 woodpeckers last week!!

Hi Chirpymum and a warm welcome from me too.

I think these cause more ID problems than almost any other of our common garden birds, they look so different to the parents don't they. Yes a juvenile Starling; they won't develop spots until they moult into their winter plumage later in the summer.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Thank you! It makes sense as we have them nest in our roof every spring. I've never seen one this colour though so I was confused😕 !!

I can send you a few more if you like - I've got about 20 of them at the moment.

Causing havock they are LOL
