North American Owl question (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone.
Curious if a Great Horned or Barred Owl would continue to pursue a squirrel
once the squirrel was inside its nest. Have the impression one of those birds actively rooted
the squirrel out, from inside its nest. Awoke this morning to the residuals of a squirrel nest laying below a Burr oak it was in. There was no storm or appreciable wind blowing

Does it have to have been a bird? Could a raccoon, say, have gotten to the nest?

Hello Fugl.
Sure, that's plausible. Quite a way up though, close to 20 meters, and about the same distance out from trunk, on a matrix of small exterior ends of branches. Would be a surprise to see a raccoon, that far out. Squirrel litter, are hardly recognizable as pups, close to adult size.
