"Can pygmy hanging parrot, Loriculus exilis, ever exhibit a dark bill? I assume "no".. (but standard references get key characters wrong so I thought I'd ask)?"
there was a bird from the road up to Mahawu Crater, Manado area, North Sulawesi on 14/7/2023 which was widely identified as pygmy by visiting birders. However, my photos show a dark bill so I think this is wrong. Photos are not the best and I've yet to do forensics on them—so let's stick to answering the q above, please.
