The white-winged nightjar (Eleothreptus candicans) is listed as Endangered and there are only few known breeding places. The main problem is habitat destruction. Little is known about the species, so a research was conducted to determine their numbers and size of the individual territories in Paraguay.
As with other nightjars the birds are found by retinal reflection of their huge eyes. The males are easier, as they like to sit on a termite mounds.
