Raven or crow? (USA, Alaska) (1 Viewer)

Hello everybody,

I think, this two birds are raven, but I´m not 100% sure...

Seen in USA, Alaska, Valdez, 22. July 2014

I akso see this as crows rather than ravens - bill looks too small to me for raven and throat feathers rather short

I'm going with Raven. Beak feathers at least 50% of beak and beak hump.

On second glance, you are right of course.

Crows for me, not just the bill and neck “shagginess” but the visible tail all point away from Raven and towards Crow.

I've never been to Alaska, but I thought that it would be right at (or beyond) the range of American Crow.

Most of Alaska is out of range, but Valdez is in range.

I don't trust myself on beak size or beak shape or beak bristles, but I would say crow on overall sheen and smoothness.

Both crows for me. Bill shape and size wrong for Raven and neither bird has the bulk I would expect for a Raven.
