This feed station has been very wet for weeks - is that why numbers are exceptionally poor ?

Happy New Year to you Mike.

Yeah... we've had a pretty miserable time of it this winter really, haven't we. Although I don't really like ice nowadays, it would be nice to see some bright frosty weather, wouldn't it!

Hi Delia,

Although fairly accurate the comment on the weather was an accidental copy and paste from the last visit to this site :) We haven't had so much wind in the last few days, actually getting caught up.

I nearly got blown over in that last gale, a good job I was close to my car and could get my hand on it for support! I suppose since then it has been less windy, though we could, perhaps, have done with a little to blow the rain over!

A nice day today, but very cold here. There was a heavy frost which hasn't lifted at all.

Slight mis-timing here as I had recorded our previous visit wrong, 10 days early, in our schedule record.

Visit a day early as weather forecast suggests this site will be very exposed for some days to come. This still fits with the BTO schedule.

While the catch might be modest, many birds were coming over in flocks up to 150 or more (mainly yellowhammer and tree sparrow) and avoiding the nets effortlessly - something about the layout of this site perhaps. Whatever, our main purpose is to support these populations with our winter feeding and that seems to be working.
