Cracking views of the 2 Blackwits after a text from yamyam, cheers. Goosander present again, Nice to see our young terns flying around. A rather gruesome site was an adult Lesser Black Back Gull catch a fully grown juvenile Little Grebe which it despatched and then proceeded to eat

Black Tailed Godwit
The first record was in 1985, and then it was four years before the next record, four birds over Swan Pool on May 14th 1989. In 1991 we had a bird on the floodwater on Handsworth Golf Course for two days, then an other four-year wait for three birds again on Swan Pool on the 22nd April 1995, then a single bird in the same year on May 18th. In 1998 we had a bird on July 2nd and a bird on the 23rd August. 1999 gave us two records again a bird in April and one in August. 2000 again saw two records one on 26th July and a bird in the August. In 2001 we had one record of three birds on the 28th September, In 2002 we had three records 16th July, 1st August and six birds on the 12th September.2003 was a good year with a bird on the 9th May, three birds on 5th June, single on 9th July, twelve birds on the island till dusk on August 15th but this was only a small party that landed out of a flock of thirty to forty birds, there were three birds the next day and they stayed with us till the 28th. 2004 two birds on 14th April and singles on the 21st July and 13th August. In 2005 only one record on the 7th July. Then came two blank years in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 we had two birds on 16th July, a single on 1st August a bird from the 30th August till mid September and a late bird on the 23rd November. Then came two more blank years 2009 and 2010. We had three records in 2011 six birds in the Marsh 30th May, a bird on the 4th June and a bird 9th-10th July. In 2012 we had a bird on the 22nd February, a bird in April a single again on the 27th May, 7th June and two birds on 15th June. A blank year in 2013 and in 2014 we had one record of two birds on the 29th August.And finally today’s birds 19th July 2015.

Quick walk around Swan pool this afternoon produced 4 Common Terns (2 adults and 2 juveniles), Chiffchaff, Blackcap, 4 Herring Gulls, Oystercatcher, 6 Swifts.

The first record was has recently as 2013 when there were two records that year the first was on the 22nd April and the second was on the 15th May, today’s bird 21st July 2015 being the third record. A much sought after bird in the Valley.
