Scaup Plumage, Arizona, USA (1 Viewer)

The below photograph was taken on 29 April at Sweetwater Wetlands in Tucson, Arizona, USA.

This is a male Lesser Scaup (reasonably sure) that appears to be midway between the First Winter (mostly brown) and full male (mostly black with white on the wings) plumages. My books do not show it, but is there a First Spring or First Summer plumage??

I suppose it could be a transition between nonbreeding and breeding plumage but it is a long ways from the normal transition of June-July.

There was another Male Scaup in the same pond in full breeding plumage.
